Boys'/Men’s 2008 USA High Performance Tryout Results

Dear High Performance Tryout Participant:

I want to personally thank you and every young man who took the time this year to attend one of our fourteen boys’/men’s High Performance Tryouts.  I also want to thank the many coaches who work with us each year to make HP Tryouts possible, and who help us achieve our High Performance goals.

As we begin final preparation for the Beijing Olympics, it is gratifying to me that our USA Men’s and Women’s National Volleyball Teams are both qualified to participate in the 2008 Olympic Games.  This is something we have achieved every Olympics since 1980 (Women’s Team) and 1884 (Men’s Team).  

It is also gratifying that we have in place a High Performance athlete pipeline that will continue to prepare young US volleyball players for competition on the world stage.  That pipeline begins with HP Tryouts and includes HP Camps, Regional HP Programs and USA Youth and Junior National Teams.

Having served as the USA Men’s Olympic Team Coach and the CEO of USA Volleyball, I have had a privileged opportunity to see the many pieces that must come together in order to compete successfully for an Olympic Medal.  One very important piece is the time we take to coach young athletes and to help them develop and improve as volleyball players. 

This, however, is only part of the puzzle.   Our USA National and Olympic Teams can only become as good as the level of desire and effort that is put forth by players from across the country who strive for greatness in their sport.  For our USA Men’s pipeline, I believe that this level has never reached a higher point than what players brought to the 2008 High Performance Tryouts. 

I hope that you found this and every one of your experiences with USA Volleyball rewarding, and I hope that you take advantage of each opportunity that becomes available to you.  Please also become a supporter and follower of our USA National Teams and please make sure that you watch every possible match played by Team USA at the Beijing Olympic Games.
