USA Volleyball Announces Rosters for Men's and Boys' HP A2 Camps

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 23, 2008) – USA Volleyball has announced the coaches and athletes who will participate in the 2008 High Performance USA A2 programs for men and boys this summer.

The coaches for this year’s camps have a wealth of high performance experience and will be focused on getting players prepared for the next level of volleyball achievement.

U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team Announced

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 18, 2008) – The 12-player U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team roster was determined this weekend as the 22-player training team went through a training session May 15-18 at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

The roster will consist of five outside hitters, four middle blockers, two setters and one libero. The roster features outside hitters Lydia Bai (Tustin, Calif.), Kristina Graven (San Jose, Calif.), Jazmine Orozco (Lakewood, Calif.), Kelly Reeves (San Diego, Calif.) and Ashley Wittman. The quartet of middle blockers are Erica Denney (Centennial, Colo.), Tori Dixon (Savage, Minn.), Madelyn Hutson (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Carly Wopat (Goleta, Calif.). The setters are Molly Kreklow (Hamlake, Minn.) and Carly Thomas (Swansea, Ill.), while Jennifer Bonilla is the libero.

USA Volleyball Announces U.S. Women's Junior National Training Team Roster

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 17, 2008) – USA Volleyball announced today the U.S. Women's Junior National Training Team, which will train July 8-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

Out of the 19 athletes, 12 players will be selected to represent USA Volleyball as the U.S. Women's Junior National Team at the NORCECA Continental Championship held July 22-27 at Saltillo, Mexico.

The Coaching Staff for the Women’s Junior National Team will be:
Head Coach: Paula Weishoff (Head Women's Coach at Concordia University Irvine)
Assistant Coach: Kim Jagd (Assistant Women's Coach at UCLA)
Assistant Coach: John Corbelli (Assistant Women's Coach at Texas A&M University)

USA Volleyball Announces U.S. Girls’ Youth National Training Team Roster

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 6, 2008) – USA Volleyball announced today the 22 players selected to the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Training Team, which will train May 15-18 at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

After the training session in Atlanta, the team will be narrowed down to 12 players who will represent USA Volleyball as its 2008 U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team at the NORCECA U-18 Continental Championship at Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The NORCECA event takes place July 3-11.

USA Volleyball Announces 2008 Men’s and Boys’ High Performance Teams

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 22, 2008) – USA Volleyball has announced the 19-player rosters for the 2008 U.S. Men’s Junior and Boys’ Youth national training teams. It has also announced the players who will participate in the 2008 USAV High Performance Select A1 Camp and Competition.

The 2008 U.S. Men’s Junior National Training Team (players born in 1989 or ’90) will practice at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., beginning in mid-June. The team will be cut to a final squad of 12 athletes, who will compete in the NORCECA Under-21 Continental Championship, scheduled for June 30-July 5 in El Salvador.

The 2008 U.S. Boys’ Youth National Training Team (players born in 1991 or ’92) will practice at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., beginning in mid-July. The team will be cut to a final squad of 12 athletes, who will participate in the NORCECA Boys’ Youth Continental Championship, which will be in the United States.

USA Volleyball Announces Girls' Youth and Women's Junior High Performance Pipeline Coaches

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 10, 2008) – USA Volleyball announced the coaching staffs for the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team and the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team on April 9 for the upcoming 2008 season.

Paula Weishoff, head women’s volleyball coach at Concordia University Irvine, will serve as head coach of the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team that will compete at the NORCECA U-20 Continental Championship July 20-28 in Saltillo, Mexico. She will be assisted by UCLA Assistant Coach Kim Jagd and Texas A&M University Assistant Coach John Corbelli.

Jim Stone, former head women’s volleyball coach at The Ohio State University, will serve as head coach of the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team that will compete at the NORCECA U-18 Continental Championship July 3-11 in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. He will be assisted by University of West Florida Head Coach Melissa Wolter and TCA Volleyball Club Director and Head Coach Neil Mason.

Tucson to Host 2008 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 10, 2007) - USA Volleyball announced today that its 2008 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships will be hosted by the city of Tucson (Ariz.) on July 23-27. Matches will take place on 15 courts in the Tucson Convention Center exhibition halls and arena in downtown Tucson. The event is expected to have a $2.4 million economic impact on Tucson.

For the second year in a row, the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships will combine both the boys’ and girls’ events into one concurrent tournament format. Titles up for grabs for girls include Girls’ International Junior, Girls’ International Youth, Girls’ National Youth and Girls’ National Select. Championships to be contested for boys include the Boys’ International Youth and Boys’ National Select.

Age divisions for all USA High Performance Programs: Women’s Junior – born on and after Jan. 1, 1990; Girls’ Youth – Born on and after Jan. 1, 1992; Girls’ Select – born on and after Jan. 1, 1994; Men’s Junior – born on and after Jan. 1, 1989; Boys’ Youth – born on and after Jan. 1, 1991; Boys’ Select – born on and after Jan. 1, 1993.

USAV Announces Final Roster for Men's Junior National Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 28, 2007) - USA Volleyball has announced the final 12-man roster for the 2007 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championships, to be held July 7-15 in Morocco.

The lineup includes eight players from last year’s team that won the silver medal at the NORCECA Championships. Before making the trip to Morocco, the team will travel to Italy to compete in a “Friendship Tournament” with Japan and Argentina.

Evaluation Period for U.S. Girls' Youth National Team Set

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 6, 2007) – USA Volleyball has designated July 19-20 for college coaches to observe practice during the July 14-29 training period for the 2007 U.S. Girls’ Youth National Training Team in Chula Vista, Calif.

These two days are strictly for evaluation/observation to limit player distractions as they prepare for the FIVB U-18 World Championships held July 31-Aug. 11 in Mexico’s Baja California region. Coaches will not be permitted to meet/contact players unless previously approved by USAV and/or the coaching staff of the team.

No restrictions are in place for observing the 2007 U.S. Women’s Junior National Team at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. from July 5-13. This squad will be competing at the FIVB U-20 World Championships held July 19-27 in Nakhonratchasima, Thailand. Again, USAV asks that coaches respect the players and the training environment, using this time for observation/evaluation only.

All other USAV High Performance camps and training sessions along with the 2007 USA High Performance Championships (July 22-26) in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. will be open to the general public.

USA Select Girls' A1 Roster Finalized

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 31, 2007) - USA Volleyball High Performance announced today the roster for its Select A1 program, the top program USAV offers for volleyball players born in and after 1992.

This group will train and compete in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from July 16-26. The training portion will be July 16-21. After the training block, the group will be divided into four teams and compete representing USA Volleyball in the 2007 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships July 22-25.

2007 U.S. Girls' Youth National Training Team Announced

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 21, 2007) – USA Volleyball has announced the 18-player roster for the 2007 U.S. Girls’ Youth National Training Team, which will train July 14-29 at Chula Vista, Calif.

The roster will be cut in late July to the maximum 12 players who will represent the U.S. at the FIVB U-18 World Championships held July 31-Aug. 11 in Mexico’s Baja California region. The World Championships will be held in Tijuana, Mexicali and Ensenada.

2007 U.S. Women's Junior National Team Selected

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 20, 2007) - USA Volleyball has announced the 12-player roster for the 2007 U.S. Women’s Junior National Team after a training block with the 24-player U.S. Women’s Junior National Training Team held May 18-20 in Austin, Texas.

The 12 players selected for the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team will represent Team USA at the FIVB U-20 World Championships held July 19-27 in Nakhonratchasima, Thailand. The dozen players will train in Colorado Springs at the U.S. Olympic Training Center approximately July 5-16 in preparation for the World Championships. Prior to leaving for Thailand, the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team will train alongside and scrimmage members of the U.S. Women’s National Team who will not compete in the Pan American Games held July 14-19 in Brazil.

High Performance Tryout Dates Set

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 14, 2006) – USA Volleyball has tentatively scheduled 37 tryout dates its High Performance Program in 2007, including 25 for girls and 12 for boys.

USA Volleyball High Performance tryouts for boys will be conducted in seven different states between Jan. 12 and March 4. USA High Performance tryouts for girls will be conducted between March 2 and April 26 in 13 different states. Each tryout session lasts four hours with the first hour designed for registration and physical testing followed by three hours of tryout activity. More

FIVB Announces Junior/Youth World Championship Dates and Sites

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 25, 2006) – The FIVB has announced the dates and sites for four international competitions scheduled for 2007. The 2007 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship (U-21) will be held July 7-16 at Casablanca and Rabat, Morocco. The 2007 FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship (U-20) will be held July 19-27 at Suphanburi, Thailand. The 2007 FIVB Boys’ Youth World Championship (U-19) will be held Aug. 15-26 in Baja California, Mexico. NORCECA Girls' Youth Continental Championship Preview

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 12, 2006) – The 2006 NORCECA (North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation) Girls’ Youth Continental Championship (U-18) will be contested July 25-30 at Gainesville, Fla. All matches are scheduled for competition at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center (12,000) on the campus of the University of Florida.

The top three finishing teams in the tournament qualify for the 2007 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship (U-18). United States, Canada, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Mexico and Puerto Rico are entered in this year’s NORCECA Girls’ Youth Continental Championship vying for a spot in next year’s FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship. USAV ANNOUNCES MEN'S AND BOYS' NATIONAL PROGRAM ROSTERS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 11, 2006) - Following 10 boys' high performance (HP) tryouts across the country in 2006 - more than triple the number from two years ago - the USAV High Performance Department has finalized rosters for the three Men's and Boys' National HP Programs. These include:

USA Men's Junior National Training Team - top 18 players born in 1987 or 1988;
USA Boys' Youth National Training Team - top 18 players born in 1989 or 1990; and
USA Boys' Select National Training Camp - top 19 players born in 1991, 1992 or later.

2006 NORCECA Girls Youth Championships Awarded to Gainesville, Fla.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 23, 2006) – Gainesville, Fla., will host the 2006 NORCECA Girls Youth Volleyball Championships on July 25-30, USA Volleyball announced Thursday. The Championships will take place at the O’Connell Center on the campus of the University of Florida. The bi-annual event will qualify teams for the 2007 FIVB Girls Youth World Championships. The site for the World Championships has not been announced. The U.S. team will be chosen from ongoing tryouts and will begin training in Gainesville on approximately July 9. More

Fort Lauderdale to Host More Competitive High Performance Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 13, 2006) – The 2006 High Performance Volleyball Championships will debut a new, more competitive format July 19-22 when they head to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., USA Volleyball announced Monday. The 2006 Championships, which will be held at the Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center, will feature four different tournament divisions, including the new International Junior Tournament. Megan Hodge Named Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year

DURHAM, N.C. (Jan. 25, 2006) – Entering its third decade of honoring the nation's best high school athletes, Gatorade® Thirst Quencher, in partnership with Scholastic Coach & Athletic Director magazine, today announced Megan Hodge of Riverside High School (Durham, N.C.) as the 2005-06 Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year. The award, which recognizes athletic achievement as well as the academic performance and overall character of its recipient, distinguishes Hodge as the nation's best high school volleyball player. A national advisory board comprised of sportswriters and sport-specific experts from around the country selected Hodge from the more than 385,000 female high school volleyball players nationwide. 2005-06 High Performance Holiday Camp Recaps

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 12, 2006) – More than 100 athletes (101, to be exact) from 17 states from across the nation converged in Austin, Texas, just after Christmas (Dec. 27-30) for four days of training under former USA Women’s Olympic and National Team Head Coach Toshi Yosida. Coach Yoshida, who will be head coach for the 2006 Women’s Junior National Team, headed a staff of 14 – including JNT assistants Erikka Gulbranson and Ted Wade along with 2006 Youth National Team Head Coach Shelton Collier of Wingate University and USA National Team Libero Nicole Davis. HP Department to Host Holiday National Training Camp for Select Youth and Junior Male Athletes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 8, 2005) – The High Performance Department is again offering top USA athletes in two age groups the opportunity to work with the USA National Men's Team coaching staff. In early January, 40 Boys Youth and Men's Junior athletes will train at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., and will be taught the principles and system with which Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon trains the Senior Men's National Team.
