USA Volleyball Beach Programs will hold tryouts for the 2008 University Beach National Team on May 9-11 in Playa de Rey, Calif.

The University Beach National Team will consist of two men’s beach volleyball teams and two women’s teams that will compete at the Fourth World University Beach Volleyball Championship on July 2-7, 2008 in Hamburg, Germany.

The team tryouts will open with a two-day training camp (May 9-10) led by USAV Beach Youth and Junior National Team Head Coach Danalee Bragado-Corso. That will be followed by the qualifying scrimmage on May 11, which will determine the team nominations. For those who do not have a partner, there will be a King of the Beach format during the camp in which coaches will pair athletes.

• Be a U.S. citizen.
• Have a birth date between Jan. 1, 1980 and Dec. 31, 1990.
• Meet one of the following academic criteria*:
  • Be accepted to attend a university as a freshman in Fall 2008.
  • Currently registered as a college student pursuing a degree (Spring 2008).
  • Have graduated from college in 2007.

* Note: Junior and community college as well as masters programs and other post-graduate studies are eligible

Event: 2008 University Beach National Team Camp and Tryout

You must bring:

• A copy of your passport
• Class schedule, school registration, most recent transcripts, or proof of date of degree
• Completed USAV membership form (if not a current member)

This will take you to the USAV Hilton portal where you will get 10 percent off the lowest possible rate, which works out to about $98/night at the Doubletree and  $107 at the HGI. We are recommending the Doubletree for this event, as it is about $10 less/night. They are both about one block from each other and a quick drive to the beach. We will be able to provide transportation to the beach, as long as we have advance notice. Both of these hotels are walking distance to a supermarket, Starbucks, Quiznos, Sizzler, Robeks and more. Downtown El Segundo is close by (one mile) with many more restaurants.
