USA Volleyball Beach Programs is holding tryouts for the 2008 FIVB Under-19 and Under-21 Beach Volleyball World Championships.

The FIVB U-19 Beach Volleyball World Championships will be held July 31-Aug. 3, 2008 in the Hague, Netherlands. The FIVB U-21 Beach Volleyball World Championships will be held Sept. 3-6, 2008 in Brighton, Great Britain.

USAV can send up to two teams per gender to these competitions. Selected athletes will comprise the Youth and Junior Beach National Team (YJBNT), representing the United States in these prestigious events.

Tryouts for the YJBNT will be held at the 2008 International Selection Camp (ISC) on June 6-8 in Playa del Rey, Calif.  The three-day training and tryout camp led by USAV Youth and Junior National Team Head Coach Danalee Bragado-Corso will determine the athletes who will travel to the FIVB U-19 and U-21 World Championships. Athletes do not need to sign up with a partner and will be selected based on their performance at the ISC. (Selection procedures will be available on this site no later than 30 days before the tryout event)

The ISC, a USAV-sanctioned Beach National Team tryout, is in compliance with all NCAA regulations. Please refer questions to your institution’s compliance counselor who may call the NCAA membership services interpretation hotline with questions.

To qualify to participate in this event and camp, you must be:

• A U.S. citizen.
• Born on or after: Jan. 1, 1988 (FIVB U-21) or Jan. 1, 1990 (FIVB U-19)
• Between 15 and 21 years old (Athletes in the U-19 age group may also be considered for U-21).

Event: International Selection Camp
Dates: June 6-8, 2008
    Note: U-19 boys who have an SCVA or other indoor commitment on Sunday, June 8 will not be penalized for missing Sunday.
Time: 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-5 p.m. daily
Location: Playa Del Rey Beach, Calif. (corner of Convoy St. and Pacific Ave.)
Directions: From all freeways, go west on 105 Freeway to the Pacific Ocean, turn right (north) on Vista Del Mar, left on Pacific Ave. Park on Pacific or Convoy St. Free public parking.
Cost: $100 + USAV Membership* (one-time USAV membership $5)
*If you play or coach a USAV/region club team, you are already registered and will not need to purchase the membership. Proof of membership is required in the form of an official membership card provided by your region or written confirmation from your region or the national office.
Registration: Online registration now open! Walk-up registration accepted on a space-available basis, plus $50 late entry fee.

Please note the following requirements:

• You must bring:

• A copy of the picture page of your current U.S. passport
• Completed USAV membership form (if not a current member)
• Proof of USAV membership or the signed waiver/release
• Medical release form with parent/guardian signature (if under 18).

 (In general notifications concerning USAV memberships are e-mailed on the Friday prior to the event.)

• Athletes must have a high level of volleyball experience to participate.
• Beach experience a plus but not required.
• Athletes will be responsible for their own transportation and accommodations.
• Athletes under 18 requiring overnight accommodations must be accompanied by a parent/guardian
• All athletes will receive a written evaluation be mailed after the camp

To get the lowest possible rate, click the flashing USA Volleyball/Hilton logo on the left side of this page (just below the navigation buttons). This will take you to the USAV Hilton portal where you will get 10 percent off the lowest possible rate, which works out to about $98/night at the Doubletree and  $107 at the HGI. We are recommending the Doubletree for this event, as it is about $10 less/night. They are both about one block from each other and a quick drive to the beach. We will be able to provide transportation to the beach, as long as we have advance notice. Both of these hotels are walking distance to a supermarket, Starbucks, Quiznos, Sizzler, Robeks and more. Downtown El Segundo is close by (one mile) with many more restaurants.

Note: Athletes must be available to travel on the Sunday prior to the event and to return the Monday after the event.
Note: Athletes who are attending the ISC for training purposes only, and are unable to attend the FIVB World Championship events if selected, should make this known upon registration.
Note: NCAA athletes must receive proper clearance from their university’s athletic department no fewer than 45 days prior to departure if the event conflicts with any academic or athletic dates.
