USA Volleyball Hosts Boys' Holiday Camp
Thirty-one players from the 2008 boys’ High Performance Youth age group honed their volleyball skills in preparation for the upcoming HP tryout season at the USA Volleyball Boys’ Holiday National Camp on Dec. 27-31 in Pomona, Calif.
“The purpose of this camp was to expose some of our best players, who will be vying for spots on the 2008 USA Boys’ Youth National Team, to our top coaches, some top competition and a world-class perspective -- just before the beginning of our tryout season,” said Collin Powers, USAV High Performance manager. “Head Coach Shawn Patchell is one of only three USA Men’s coaches who have coached a team at the Boys’ Youth World Championships (in 2007 with coaches Tino Reyes and Ken Shibuya) and he showed the players what it takes to win at the international level.”
The three other staff coaches included former national team player Chris Harger, who is now director of Spectrum Volleyball Club; Kevin Moore of Pace Volleyball Club who served as a training coach for each of the past two U.S. Boys’ Youth National Teams and Scott Panaro of Balboa Bay Volleyball Club.
The camp included a trip to the American Sports Center in Anaheim, Calif., to watch the U.S. Men’s National Team as it prepared for the upcoming NORCECA Olympic qualification tournament in Puerto Rico.
