PERSONAL: Born Nils Robert Nielsen on Nov. 23, 1981 in Fallbrook, Calif.… Parents are Robert and Anette… Has one sister, Birka… Attended Fallbrook High School from 1996-2000… Attended Cal State Northridge from 2000-05 and has a BA in history… His favorite actors include Tim Robbins and Keira Knightley and favorite movies are “The Shawshank Redemption” and “The Big Lebowski”… Also likes the music of Jack Johnson… Says if he had a million dollars he would buy a home by the beach… Couldn’t imagine going a week without milk.

MAJOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION: 2007 – Pan American Games (silver medal). 2005 – World University Games.

INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: 2007 – Helped the U.S. Men win the silver medal at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 2005 – Played with the 2005 World University Games team in Izmar, Turkey.

COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS: 2005 – American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Second-Team All-American… Helped the Matadors reach the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Tournament semifinals… He averaged a team-leading 3.99 kills per game while adding 1.52 digs per game… Charted double-figure kills in 22-of-32 matches, including back-to-back 28-plus kill matches in the MPSF playoffs this year… Academic All-MPSF …His play was also a factor in Cal State Northridge reaching the semifinals of the MPSF Tournament where the Matadors lost in four games to top-ranked Pepperdine… Third-Team All-MPSF. 2004 – Finished his junior year ranked 10th on the Cal State Northridge career list in total attempts with 2,102… All-MPSF Honorable Mention… Led the Matadors in kills (308) and total attacks (735) and was third in kills per game (3.08)… Served a career-high 33 aces, which led the team… His 23 aces during MPSF play ranked seventh in the conference. 2003 – Honorable Mention All-MPSF…Academic All-MPSF… Appeared in 29 matches and 100 games… Finished second on the team averaging a career-high 3.18 kills per game… Posted double-figure kills in 19 of 29 matches… Tied a career-high with 19 kills, while hitting .517, in the season-opener against La Verne. 2002 – Appeared in 29 matches and 90 games… Made a big impact in his first full season as he finished second on the team in kills (250), kills per game (2.78) and total attacks (609)… MPSF All-Academic team… Was fourth on the team with 115 digs, 55 blocks and 15 service aces.
