PERSONAL: Born Paul Matthew Muñoz on Feb. 9, 1983 in Fountain Valley, Calif.… Son of Ben and Rosemary Munoz… Has a brother (Jimmy) and a sister (Patty)… Paul went to Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif., where he played football and volleyball and was also on the surf team… He has returned to Long Beach State to earn his degree in psychology… Enjoys surfing, snowboarding, yoga and is working on his own clothing line… Trained with the U.S. Men’s National Team in 2006-08… Played in Greece in 2006-07.
MAJOR INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE: 2005 – World University Games (11th Place). 2002 – NORCECA Junior Continental Championship (Bronze Medal).
INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: 2005 – Started at libero for the United States team that finished 11th at the World University Games in Izmir, Turkey during the summer. 2002 – Contributed a team-high six digs as Team USA won the bronze medal match in the NORCECA Junior Continental Championship over Mexico.
COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS: 2005 – Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Conference Honorable Mention… Recorded a team-high 170 digs in MPSF play for a 2.12 digs per game average… Had a season-high 14 digs vs. UCLA. 2004 – Recorded a team-best 245 digs (1.99 per game average) which were not only a junior single-season record, but the fourth highest total in a single-season in program history… Ranked in the top-10 in the MPSF in digs per game this season and Top-20 in the country… Reached double digits in digs eight times. 2003 – MPSF Honorable Mention… Posted double-digits in digs seven times. 2002 – Played 42 games as a freshman averaging 1.64 digs per game
