INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION: 2007 – Pan American Cup (Fourth Place)…Pan American Games (Bronze Medal).

INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: 2007 – Averaged 1.79 points per set, including 0.71 blocks and 0.36 aces per set, during Pan American Cup for her first international exposure…Played in one set during the Pan American Games.

COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS: Tomes was named honorable mention All-Big 12 as a senior in 2006 after averaging 3.94 points, 1.19 blocks, 2.95 kills, 0.29 aces and 1.19 digs per game. Tomes finished the season with a .367 attack percentage and completed her Sooner career as the career leader in hitting percentage (.298). She ended her career with 333 blocks and a 0.94 blocks per game average. Played first two seasons as an opposite hitter before transitioning to a middle hitter final two years.

PERSONAL: Born Laura Marie Tomes on Feb. 16, 1985, in Sioux City, Iowa…Mother is Maria Tomes…Has one brother, Alexander…Hobbies including reading…Favorite athlete is Roger Maris…Favorite food is steak…Most admired person is younger brother Alexander, who plays football at Northwest Missouri State University, because he is an amazing, hard-working, passionate, dedicated person… Wants to skydive at some point in her life as part of a list of crazy activities…Known as a “Comeback Queen” for enduring challenges. She lost her father at age 16, then tore her right ACL only a few months later while warming up in high school season opener of junior year. Midway through her college freshman season, she tore her left ACL. She had left knee meniscus surgery prior to her college junior season…Plans to graduate from Oklahoma in summer 2007 with a degree in mathematics.
