Mohawks Lead to Victory in Pennsylvania
Brought together through Mohawks and blue camouflage jerseys, the Exeter Township School District boys volleyball team recently capped off the 2007 season by capturing the school’s first-ever Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) AA volleyball title; and did so in dramatic fashion, no pun intended. For the Love of the Game
How far would you go to play volleyball? The first volleyball team that Kyle Szen of Hilton Head Island, S.C., played for was the 16s girls team of the Low Country Volleyball Club. He was 14 and had no other option or outlets. The following season, he was turned away from Low Country, as the opportunity for boys to play two age groups up was vetoed by his region. This was the first of many challenges that Szen would have to overcome in order to continue playing the sport he loved. MORE

NATIONAL TEAMS

USAV Announces Men's Junior Team Roster
USA Volleyball has announced the final 12-man roster for the 2007 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championships, to be held July 7-15 in Morocco. The lineup is almost entirely composed of last year’s silver medalist NORCECA team with eight returners. Before making the trip to Morocco, the team will travel to Italy to compete in a “Friendship Tournament” with Japan and Argentina. MORE

Three Teams Preparing for U-19 Beach World Championships
USA Volleyball has announced the three beach volleyball teams that will represent the United States at the FIVB U-19 World Championships on July 11-15 in Myslowice, Poland. Will Montgomery (Santa Barbara, Calif.) will pair up with Devon “Hawk” Hatcher (Los Osos, Calif.) in the Boys U-19 Division, while the teams of Falyn Fonoimoana (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and Lane Carico (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) as well as Jazmin Machado (Encinitas, Calif.) and Tara Roenicke (Alta Loma, Calif.) will take on the Girls Division at the U-19 championships. The Gold Medal Squared Coaching Clinic held April 20-22 at Arizona State University gave some Arizona coaches a chance to learn their system. USA Volleyball coaching legend Carl McGown, the founder and lead clinician for the Gold Medal Squared program was joined by U.S. Men’s National Team coach Hugh McCutcheon for the three-day clinic.
