Intern, Communications, Media Relations and Publications
Employment Period: March-August 2008
Description: USA Volleyball, the recognized National Governing Body for the sport of volleyball in the United States, is seeking a six-month intern to work in its media relations and publications department. Being an Olympic year, the internship will provide the selected individual valuable on-the-job training while getting a behind-the-scene look at what it takes to reach the Olympics through the eyes of a National Governing Body (NGB). The intern will assist the department in media development and coverage leading up to and during the Olympic Games while being based in Colorado Springs. The intern will acquire experience working with the junior volleyball category through on-line publications, news releases and event coverage. This position will also be involved with the current and historical archiving of the organization.
Qualifications Required: Recent college graduates or current undergraduate students are ideal candidates for the position. Volleyball knowledge very helpful to the position, but not required. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PhotoShop software is required. Proficiency in either InDesign or Quark recommended. Demonstrated reliability and ability to perform under deadline pressure and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with conflicting deadlines. A self-starter with initiative and an attention to detail is required.
