FIVB 2009 World League Page
The FIVB World League is a men's volleyball competition created in 1990. It consists of 16 teams from around the world competing over the course of seven weeks. The total prize purse for the event is more than $20 million, with the overall winner receiving $1 million for winning the final round.
During the first six weekends, the teams compete in pools of four. The teams within a pool all play each other in two matches on the road and two at home.
The winners of each of the pools qualify for the final round. The final round host country automatically qualifies for the final round and there is also a wild card qualifier selected by the FIVB.
The FIVB determines the teams that participate in World League. The United States has competed in World League 11 times in 1990-95, 2000-01 and 2006-08. Its best finish was first place in the 2008 World League. It also finished third in 1992 and 2007.
