Congratulations! The thirty-three athletes listed above have been selected as the top athletes in their age group and are invited to attend the 2007 Boys’ USA Select A1 Camp and Competition.
These athletes were selected from a pool of approximately 300 USA Select-age athletes who tried out at twelve High Performance Tryouts held across the country, January through early March.
Please note that our deadlines for committing to attend the Boys’ USA Select A1 Program (though email notification to the HP Dept.), and for making full camp payment are earlier than they have been in the past. This year, we ask all athletes who intend to participate in a Development Camp to inform us by April 6th. All final payments must be made to USA Volleyball by May 1st. After that date, alternates will be slotted into the A1 Program.
This webpage will continue to be the news and update link for Boys USA Select A1 Camp and Competition athletes for the coming months. Please copy this page to your Favorites menu.
Boys USA Select A1 Program Specifics:
- The thirty-three selected athletes comprise the 2007 Boys USA Select A1 Program.
- All athletes will fly to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, beginning on July 16th.
- The squad will train for five days and then split into three teams for competition.
- These two teams will then compete in Boys US High Performance Championships, to be held in the same city July 22nd – 25th.
- In 2007, we hope to have three International Teams competing in Boys US HP Championships. The field will also include three Boys’ Youth A2 squads and Regional All-Star teams.
- Athletes will fly home from the competition on July 26th.
- A competition experience was added to the Boys USA Select National Program in 2006 to provide these athletes with the same kind of competition that they will experience if ever on the USA Youth or Junior National Teams.
- Due to the extended training and competition for this Program, the cost of this camp and competition will be $950/athlete.
- This cost will cover all room, training, facility, competition, uniform, etc. costs for athletes involved in the Boys USA Select A1 program. It does not cover travel to and from Ft. Lauderdale; athletes will also be responsible for two meals per day during the HP Championships competition.
- Families will be responsible for arranging the athlete’s travel to and from the host city.
- The Coaching Staff of the 2007 Boys USA Select A1 Program is as follows:
- Charlie Sullivan, Head Coach of Springfield College. Coach Sullivan was on staff for the 2004 USA Mens Junior National Team as well as numerous other National USA Programs including the USA Mens Senior National Team at 2006 World Championships and the 2006 USA Select A1 Program.
- Travis Turner – Balboa Bay VC and Orange Coast College;
- JT Wenger – UCLA;
- Jonah Carlson – US Santa Cruz;
- Mathew Diaz – Pacific Palisades VC; and
- Brad Keller – Univ. of Southern California
- Once final confirmations have been received from all 20 athletes regarding their intent to participate in the Boys’ USA Select A1 Program, the above roster will be finalized and posted on the USA Volleyball High Performance website.
There are a number of things that we need from these athletes and families:
- First, please email Collin Powers indicating whether you accept this offer to participate on the 2007 Boys’ USA Select A1 Program.
- The deadline for confirming your intent to participate is Friday, April 6 th.
- For all email correspondence related to this program, please include your name and Boys’ USA Select A1 Program in the subject line of the email.
- We will need to receive 100% of the camp payment ($950) by May 1st unless other arrangements are made with Collin Powers of the HP Dept.
- Please mail checks to:
USA Volleyball
Attn: High Performance BSEL A1 Camp
715 S. Circle Dr.
Colorado Springs, CO 80910
Please put the athlete’s name and BSEL A1 in the bottom, left-hand corner of the check.
- Please email Collin your gear sizes for the following items:
- Training t-shirt size;
- Jersey size;
- Shorts size;
- Sweat shirt and sweat pant size (we probably will not be able to provide these – but if we can we will).
- Please wait until you hear a full confirmation back from us that we have received your intention to participate in the program before you schedule your flight. Once you have that confirmation, you can schedule your flight to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
- Please schedule your arrival time into Ft. Lauderdale for some time between say 11:00am and 3:00pm on July 16th. Please check with me for any needed variances. Any later arrival than that on the 26th and you may have to catch up with our team meeting, dinner, first session, etc.
- Please schedule your departure out of Ft. Lauderdale in the morning on the 26th of July, with optimal departure time of 9:00am – 12:00noon.
USA Volleyball will handle all local transportation, including to and from the airport, and a staff member will be at the airport to meet all athletes flying in to Ft. Lauderdale.
Congratulations again to you all!!
