Boys' 2007 USA High Performance Tryout Results
Introduction by USA Men's National Team Coach, Hugh McCutcheon:
On behalf of the coaches and staff of the USA Men's Team and National High Performance Program, I want to thank all of you who participated in 2007 Boys' HP Tryouts. With 170 more tryout participants than we have ever seen before, the quantity and quality of competitive boys’ volleyball athletes continues to grow.
I know that every athlete who attended a tryout would like to someday represent the USA on the Men's National Team and to play in the Olympics. And though few players will ever get that opportunity, it is the sum of those dreams and desires that is having a profound impact on our sport. That competitive desire bodes very well for our future.
I encourage all athletes who are selected to participate in a USA summer program to pursue this opportunity – and any other opportunity they may have – to play with and against the best players they can. For our U.S. Mens’ National Team, this is essential for us in order to continually improve along with the other top mens’ volleyball countries in the world – many of which have men's professional leagues and other means of developing players to their highest potential.
In particular, it is important to take any opportunity you may have to play international competition. Our High Performance Program continues to expand these opportunities for our pipeline athletes; and this year, athletes in the USA Select A1 group and the Youth A2 group will join the Youth and Junior National Team in competing with international teams. It is hoped that three international teams will participate with the USA Sel A1 and Youth A2 teams at Boys HP Championships in Fort Lauderdale.
Last but not least, my congratulations to those athletes selected for our Boys Youth National Team and Men's Junior National Team. In 2007, for the first time ever, both of these U.S. teams will participate in World Championships.
Best of luck to you all and I look forward to seeing you in the USA Men's National Team gym someday.
Sincerely,
Hugh McCutcheon
