Congratulations! The athletes listed above have been selected for the 2007 Men's USA Junior National Training Team or as alternates to the Training Team.
Please note that U.S. National Team coaches are currently discussing the possibility of two athletes not listed above being part of the 18 Invitees. Therefore, there are only 16 listed. If one or both of these athletes chooses not to participate in the summer MJNTT, then alternates will be slotted up into their spots.
These athletes were selected from a large pool of Junior-age athletes who were evaluated at HP tryouts and also through observation of video and match play. These evaluations were conducted by Men's USA Junior National coaching staff in conjunction with coaches across the country including the Men's USA National Team coaching staff.
This webpage will continue to be the news and update link for MJNTT athletes for the coming months. Please copy this page to your Favorites menu.
MJNTT Program Specifics:
- The eighteen selected athletes will comprise the 2007 Men's Junior National Training Team (JNTT).
- The eighteen athletes must confirm their intention to participate on the JNTT to Collin Powers in the High Performance department of USA Volleyball by Friday, April 6th or call (719) 228-6800). After that date, alternates will be slotted onto the team.
- All eighteen athletes will be brought together to train at the Lake Placid, NY, Olympic Training Center in June – approximately June 15th.
- Coaching staff and HP staff will be in touch with the four high school players to determine whether this time frame is workable.
- Concessions will be made for any conflicting graduation dates.
- From this group of eighteen training athletes, a final squad of twelve athletes will be chosen to represent the USA as the 2007 Men's Junior National Team.
- The Men's JNT will travel to Morocco in early July to participate in Men's Junior World Championships (exact travel date to be determined, based on possibility of pre-tournament scrimmages with other countries).
- There are no costs to athletes and their families for participating on the Men's Junior National Training Team. All costs are covered by USA Volleyball, grants from the U.S. Olympic Committee and the FIVB.
- Head Coach of the 2007 Men's Junior Team is Andy Read from Long Beach State University. He will assisted by Matt Martin of Rutgers-Newark University and John Hawks of University of Southern California.
- Once final confirmations have been received from all 18 athletes regarding their intent to participate on the MJNTT, a roster will be finalized and posted on the USA Volleyball High Performance website.
There are a number of things that we need from these athletes and families:
- First, please email or call Collin Powers indicating whether you accept this offer to participate on the 2007 MJNTT.
- For all e-mail correspondence related to this program, please include your name and MJNTT in the subject line of the email.
- Athletes must possess a current U.S. Passport, valid at least through March of 2008. Please scan/email or fax a copy of the picture/signature pages of your passport to Carla Hall at USA Volleyball at (719) 635-0826 (use this fax number for this purpose only) . Please indicate in the cover letter or email that you are a Men's JNTT participant.
- If you don't have a current passport, please apply for a US Passport ASAP. Fax a copy of the passport application to Carla Hall at the fax number noted above. Once you receive your passport, please sign your name as shown on the passport, and fax or scan/email a copy to Carla Hall. It is essential that you complete this step immediately upon confirmation of your willingness to participate on the 2007 MJNTT.
- All participating athletes must complete a number of Olympic Training Center forms that need to be signed (by athlete and parent) and faxed to Carla Hall at the fax number above. These will be placed up on the HP website within a couple of weeks.
- All participating athletes must complete a USAV Traveler's Profile for travel to Lake Placid and possibly Morocco (please disregard credit card, PIN numbers and other sensitive financial information - that is not needed).
- Please email Collin your gear sizes for the following items:
- Shoe size;
- Training t-shirt size;
- Jersey size;
- Shorts size;
- Sweat shirt size;
- Sweat pant size;
- Game warm-up jacket size; and
- Game warm,-up pant size.
Congratulations again to all of you.
