COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS: Vernon was a two-year letterman at the University of Hawai’i…He capped a short, but stellar, career in May 2002 as the Rainbow Warriors captured the NCAA Men’s Division I Volleyball Championship…Was a two-year starter at libero and earned All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors each year…As a junior in 2001 he was named first-team All-MPSF, and as a senior in 2002 he captured second-team All-MPSF honors…As a senior he led the team in digs (230) and digs per game (2.15)…Before transferring to Hawai’i Vernon was a two-year letterman at Santa Barbara City College where played outside hitter for head coach Melody Parker…Named second team all-league as a sophomore…in his first year, he led his team to the semifinals of South Coast Conference Junior College Tournament.
PERSONAL: Born Vernon Keoni Podlewski on Nov. 14, 1976 in Wailuku, Hawaii…Parents are Stanley and Dornamae Podlewski…Also has three brothers (Stanley, David and Norman) and one sister (Veronica)...Enjoys free diving and hiking in his spare time…His favorite food is teriyaki beef, and his favorite professional team is the Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA…His happiest moment in life was winning the NCAA Men’s Division I Volleyball Championship in 2002.
