USA Volleyball High Performance Tryouts Hitting Stride

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 21, 2007) - Interest in USA Volleyball High Performance girls’ tryouts has escalated in 2007 in comparison to the first two tryout weekends of 2006.

Just in the first two weeks of the 2007 schedule, the tryouts have evaluated over 850 athletes at the junior national, youth national and select age groups. All told, the number is nearly double the tryout participants from a year ago with nearly identical locations. The opening two weeks of the 2007 tryout schedule have included Orlando, Hilo, Hawai'i, Honolulu, Hawai'i, Anaheim, Calif., Aurora, Ill., Schenectady, N.Y., West Point, N.Y., and Denver.

"Historically, tryout numbers would increase in the second year of the two-year High Performance age group cycle, but the enrollment numbers of these early tryouts have been beyond expectations," said USA Volleyball Director of High Performance Tom Pingel. "We are very happy that so many young athletes are interested in attending the tryout and hopefully accessing our summer programs and hope the trend continues through the end of the tryout season in late April."

The upcoming girls’ tryout schedule includes stops at San Francisco on March 24, Lansing, Mich., on March 24, Indianapolis on March 25 and March 29, Cheney, Wash., on March 25 and April 1, Anaheim, Calif., on April 1 and April 15, Atlanta on April 5, Pittsburgh on April 8 and April 12, Dallas on April 12 and April 20, Minneapolis on April 13 and April 19, and Reno, Nev., on April 26.

The tryouts are the main avenue by which USA Volleyball selects players to participate on the U.S. Women's Junior National Team, U.S. Girls' Youth National Team and Select A1 Camp, as well as A2 teams and developmental camps across the country in all age groups. Approximately 1,300 Select, Youth and Junior female players will be a part of a team or camp this summer as selected from the tryouts this spring.

Once all tryouts have taken place for a specific gender, USA Volleyball will post results on its website using the athlete’s month and day of birth, and the last four digits of their social security number, or the number provided on your tryout application.
