U.S. WOMEN'S NATIONAL TRAINING TEAM TO TOUR CHINA

The U.S. Women’s National Training Volleyball Team will take a three-week training tour of China that will lead the squad to four different locations for training sessions and exhibition matches against Chinese club teams. U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach “Jenny” Lang Ping will use the tour as an evaluation tool for the young squad. MORE

U.S. MEN'S UPDATE: WHAT'S HAPPENING OVERSEAS

Later this summer, the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team will participate in the 2008 FIVB World League and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. However, this winter most of the U.S. Men’s players are competing for their professional club teams in various leagues around the world. U.S. SITTING WOMEN TO HOST NETHERLANDS IN CHICAGO AREA

The U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team will begin its run up to the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing by hosting the Netherlands Women’s Sitting Volleyball team for a training and scrimmage camp on March 17-20 in the Chicago area. MORE

U.S. WORLD LEAGUE TICKET SALES BEGIN THIS WEEK

Tickets for the 2008 FIVB World League matches being held in the United States are going on sale starting this week. The U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team finished third at the 2007 World League, an exciting elite men’s volleyball competition in which the world’s best teams are divided into four pools and play for six straight weekends from June 13 to July 20. Winners from each pool will go to the final round on July 23-27 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, along with the host country and a pick from among the second-place teams in pool play. MORE

AVP ANNOUNCES 2008 BEACH TOUR SCHEDULE

AVP, Inc., a lifestyle sports entertainment company focused on professional beach volleyball, announced on Wednesday its 2008 AVP Crocs Tour schedule. It includes 18 tour stops across the continental United States, from Florida to New York and back to Southern California. As announced by the United States Olympic Committee, Kiraly (Santa Barbara, Calif.), the only volleyball player to win three Olympic gold medals, is one of 18 finalists for the USOC Hall of Fame Class of 2008. FIVB BOARD OF ADMINISTRATION DISCUSSES MAJOR CHANGES

A number of important proposals were approved by the Board of Administration on the second day of the 2008 meeting led by FIVB President Dr. Rubén Acosta. Controls on the number of club players coming from other national federations, rules to sanction clubs not respecting players’ salary payments and national team activities and the use of a new ball at the Beijing Olympic Games were agreed on and will be forwarded to the 31st FIVB World Congress. USA VOLLEYBALL LAUNCHES ON-LINE USER VIDEO CHANNEL

USA Volleyball announced Feb. 1 that it has launched an interactive video web component on its web site called “USA Volleyball Video Channel” and accessed at http://www.usavolleyball.org/video/default.aspx.

Essentially, the functionality allows users to upload volleyball-related video for USA Volleyball to review and post either directly “as-is” or in post-production format coming video segments similar to a television show or newscast.

The first project under the USA Volleyball Video Channel umbrella will be “Ask the CEO,” where the general public can upload their video questions to the site. USA Volleyball Chief Executive Officer Doug Beal will respond via a video-streamed format to selected questions on a monthly basis. The deadline for the first responses must be posted to the site by Friday, Feb. 15.

The NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions has penalized Brigham Young University for major and secondary violations in its men's volleyball program. Read about it here… The NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Committee focused its recent meeting on increasing attendance at first- and second-round sites of the tournament. National office staff members and the American Volleyball Coaches Association are working with the committee to develop best practices that can help preliminary-round hosts boost their crowds.
