LANG PING, WALSH CARRY TORCH THROUGH SAN FRANCISCO

U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team Head Coach “Jenny” Lang Ping (Beijing, China) and USA beach volleyball Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh (Santa Clara, Calif.) were among approximately 80 individuals to take a turn running the Olympic torch on Wednesday afternoon in San Francisco, the only North American city to host the Olympic Torch Relay as the flame journeys to Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games. TEAM USA FINISHES CHINA EXHIBITION TOUR WITH 5-3 RECORD

The U.S. Women’s National Training Team finished its three-week training tour of China with a 5-3 record against club teams. Team USA’s tour of China was designed to allow the coaches to evaluate a younger group of players in preparation for Olympic Games roster selections. The U.S. qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games, held Aug. 8-24 in Beijing, by finishing with a bronze medal at the 2007 FIVB World Cup. DALHAUSSER, ROGERS WIN BATTLE OF U.S. BEACH TEAMS

In a match that one U.S. beach volleyball team had to win, second-seeded Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers defeated compatriots and 18th-ranked Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal (21-18, 14-21, 15-11) in 50 minutes to finish third at the Adelaide Australia Open on Glenelg Beach, the first event on the 2008 SWATCH FIVB World Tour. USA Volleyball announced the coaching staffs for the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team and the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team for the upcoming 2008 season. Paula Weishoff, head women’s volleyball coach at Concordia University Irvine, will serve as head coach of the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team. Jim Stone, former head women’s volleyball coach at The Ohio State University, will serve as head coach of the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team. MORE

USA VOLLEYBALL NATIONAL QUALIFIER RESULTS

Five national qualifiers into the 2008 USA Junior Olympic Girls' Volleyball Championships have been completed, while one other has finished the first of two weekend sessions. A total of nine qualifiers provide bids to the national event, which will be held in Dallas June 26-July 5. MORE

USA VOLLEYBALL LAUNCHES ON-LINE USER VIDEO CHANNEL

USA Volleyball announced Feb. 1 that it has launched an interactive video web component on its web site called “USA Volleyball Video Channel” and accessed at http://www.usavolleyball.org/video/default.aspx.

Essentially, the functionality allows users to upload volleyball-related video for USA Volleyball to review and post either directly “as-is” or in post-production format coming video segments similar to a television show or newscast.

The first project under the USA Volleyball Video Channel umbrella will be “Ask the CEO,” where the general public can upload their video questions to the site. USA Volleyball Chief Executive Officer Doug Beal will respond via a video-streamed format to selected questions on a monthly basis. The deadline for the first responses must be posted to the site by Friday, Feb. 15.
