U.S. MEN'S, WOMEN'S TEAMS TO PLAY OLYMPIC EXHIBITIONS

Both the U.S. Men's National Team and the U.S. Women's National Team will be playing 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Exhibitions for Volleyball this spring that will be broadcast on MSNBC. The U.S. Men will be playing Argentina on May 27 in Irvine, Calif. The U.S. Women will face Brazil in a series of three matches on June 11, 13 and 14 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

SEAN ROONEY FINDS SUCCESS AFTER LEAVING BEACH BEHIND

Former beach volleyball player Sean Rooney knew he had really left his previous life behind when he was playing indoor volleyball for a Russian professional team this winter. “It was minus-40 degrees when I left Russia,” he said from the U.S. Men’s National Team’s headquarters in Anaheim, Calif. “I’m really glad to be back.” MORE

Kim Willoughby (Napoleonville, La.), a three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American and 2003 AVCA National Player of the Year, has been added to the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team, according to Team USA Head Coach ‘Jenny’ Lang Ping. MORE

KIRALY TO BE INDUCTED INTO U.S. OLYMPIC HALL OF FAME

Karch Kiraly, the only volleyball player to win three Olympic gold medals, is one of nine Olympians who will be inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame Presented by Allstate, the U.S. Olympic Committee announced. Kiraly (Santa Barbara, Calif.), who retired from beach volleyball in 2007, won gold medals with the U.S. Men’s indoor team in 1984 and ’88, then came back and won a gold medal on the beach with partner Kent Steffes in 1996. U.S. WOMEN'S SITTING TEAM COMPETING IN EGYPT

SPRINGFIELD BEATS VASSAR for MOLTEN DIII CHAMPIONSHIP

For the fifth time in program history, the Springfield College men's volleyball team can call itself national champion. In front of a raucous 1,300 fans, the host Pride captured the 2008 Molten Division III Men's Invitational Volleyball Championship by sweeping Vassar in three games in Blake Arena. In dominating fashion, the Pride won by the scores 30-26, 30-24, 30-20. MORE

USA VOLLEYBALL LAUNCHES ON-LINE USER VIDEO CHANNEL

USA Volleyball announced Feb. 1 that it has launched an interactive video web component on its web site called “USA Volleyball Video Channel” and accessed at http://www.usavolleyball.org/video/default.aspx.

Essentially, the functionality allows users to upload volleyball-related video for USA Volleyball to review and post either directly “as-is” or in post-production format coming video segments similar to a television show or newscast.

The first project under the USA Volleyball Video Channel umbrella will be “Ask the CEO,” where the general public can upload their video questions to the site. USA Volleyball Chief Executive Officer Doug Beal will respond via a video-streamed format to selected questions on a monthly basis. The deadline for the first responses must be posted to the site by Friday, Feb. 15.

Kluka, professor in the Department of Biokinetics, Sports and Leisure Sciences at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, has been named as one of three 2008 Distinguished Alumni by Texas Woman¹s University and the TWU Former Students Association. Kluka is a former volleyball player who wrote the book Volleyball in the Winning Edge Series and won USA Volleyball's Leader in Volleyball Award in 1998… The National Intramural -Recreational Sports Association held its volleyball championships on April 10-12 in Dallas.
