Boys Volleyball Tournament Raises Funds for Teen with Cancer The Space Needle Volleyball Foundation (SNVF) in Washington raised $1,200 at a boys volleyball tournament on April 14 to support "The Shayla Fund". Shayla Holwegner, a sophomore middle blocker at Eisenhower High School in Yakima, Wash., fractured her femur on Feb. 25 while playing for the Eisenhower Spikers Volleyball Club during a match at nearby Pasco, Wash. After surgery to repair the leg with an optimistic forecast for full recovery, doctors discovered a rare form of bone cancer, osteosarcoma, when testing an unknown tissue found in Shayla's leg during the operation. The tragic twist has turned the 16-year-old's life into chaos. There are only 250 cases of this type of bone cancer in the United States for Shayla's age group. MORE
