Duct Taped Coach Leads to $4,500 Fundraiser
Lake of the Woods High School in Baudette, Minn., conducted an interesting fundraiser in October for its volleyball program under the direction of Jill Olson. As part of a fish fry fundraising event, each player on the volleyball team had to raise $300 in order to duct tape Coach Olson to the wall during the fish fry. In turn, Coach Olson had to raise $200 to simply get herself free tape.
"The fish fry went great, and we were able to raise $4,500 by the end of the night," Olson said.
Recently, Lake of the Woods High School has been suffering from declining student enrollment causing budget cuts within the athletics department. According to Olson, the school's athletic director - Mr. Brian Novak - has been working overtime creating different ways in which the department can raise money to help pay for coaches salaries, equipment costs, etc. However, the only thing that the school is able to pay for is the cost of transportation for each sport.
