Getting to Know Layne Hoke

Layne Hoke, a member of the Stellar Volleyball Club 12 National Team, has provided "Getting to Know" answers to various questions. She is a sixth grader at North Middle School in Colorado Springs, Colo. What are the top songs in your iPod?
Bleed it Out, Paralyzer, Clockwork, What I’ve Done and Fake it.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Play volleyball, play videogames and watch movies.

What are some of the things you like best about playing club volleyball?
Getting to meet new people, learning new things and just being able to play.

Other than family, who would you like to invite to complete a dinner foursome (individuals can be dead or alive)?
Erica-my best friend-Jordan-my other best friend-Taylor-my cousin-and Haley-my other best friend.

Who was your club coach?
My mom, Tori.

First started playing volleyball at what age?
9, that’s about when I started club.

Where would you like to spend a week’s vacation?
In Europe.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Europe.

What is your favorite room in your house and why?
My room, I just love it.

What is the one luxury item that you could not do without?
My TV.

What luxury item do you wish you could invent?
A time machine-that really works :).

What is your favorite television program?
Spongebob Squarepants.

What is your favorite movie?
I don’t really have a favorite, but I like action films.

What is your favorite book?
Harry Potter series.

Are you a morning person, afternoon person or night person?
Definitely a night person.

What is your pre-match ritual?
Listening to my favorite songs-shown above-on my iPod.

What is the best thing about competing for a club volleyball team?
You have lots of fun and get to play volleyball, duh!

What is your favorite volleyball drill?
Scrimmaging, but it’s not really a drill.

What sport would you be competing in if not for volleyball?
Soccer or snowboarding.

Who is your favorite volleyball player?
Beach: Misty May, indoor: Tara Cross-Battle.

My role models are?
My family and friends.

What is your favorite food?
Pizza and ice cream!

What is your hometown best known for?
“Sprintcar capitol of the world”-Knoxville, Iowa.

What is your favorite subject in school?
P.E. or Science.

What has been the happiest moment in your life?
So far, when I was born, maybe it will be when I get my first car.

If you could see any musical act or performer (dead or alive) in concert, who would it be?
Linkin Park.

If you would live as one other person (celebrity or not) for one day, who would it be?
Any one of my best friends.

If you could have one super power, what would it be?
To be able to fly.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you take with you?
My best friend, my cell phone and my Nintendo DS.

If you could be on the cover of one magazine, which one would you choose?
Volleyball USA.

What is the most “embarrassing” song on your iPod?
I’m too Sexy-my dad put it on there! :-(

What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Fun, smart and weird!

What is your favorite holiday?
My birthday, and Christmas!

What is your favorite season – winter, spring, summer or fall?
Spring, just the right temp.

What is one off-the-court talent that you have?
Being clumsy, but it’s not a good one.

What are your most prized possessions?
My family and friends, and pets.

What is your pet peeve?
Don’t like people that can’t sing but are constantly singing.

What is your biggest fear?
Being stranded
