U.S. BEACH TEAMS WIN NORCECA GOLD
Beach volleyball teams from the United States won both the men’s and women’s events on April 8 at the first leg of the 2007 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit on Boca Chica Beach in the Dominican Republic. Hans Stolfus (Solon, Iowa) and Scott Wong (Pearl City, Hawaii) took the men's title while Paula Roca (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Alicia Polzin (Houston, Texas) won for the women. MORE

Photo copyrighted by USA Volleyball The U.S. Women’s National Training Team scrimmaged the University of Denver on April 19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. The scrimmage was the fourth of five scrimmage dates against collegiate programs. Despite not having an opposite and a second outside hitter during the current training period, the U.S. has lost just one match against the likes of Oregon, Colorado and Colorado State. Some U.S. volleyball athletes playing overseas got a front-row seat to a Greek drama over the last two weeks as all team sports in Greece were cancelled after a mass brawl between rival women’s volleyball teams left one fan dead. MORE

JUNIATA WINS record fifth Molten DIVISION III TITLE
Molten Division III Men's Invitational Volleyball Championship Logo The Juniata College men's volleyball team made history in the most dramatic fashion possible, as the second-seed Eagles rallied from a two-game deficit to claim a 3-2 victory over top-seed Carthage College in the championship match of the 2007 Molten Division III Men's Invitational Volleyball Championship. The Eagles become the first team to win the Molten Championship four-consecutive seasons, and now have won a tournament-record five Molten titles overall in the 11-year history of the event. More

USAV LAUNCHES BEACH JUNIOR TOUR
Junior beach volleyball players, get ready: USA Volleyball, in conjunction with the Elevation Group, wants you to get out of the gym and onto the beach. USA Volleyball is pleased to announce the 10 tournaments, two high performance camps and one International Selection Camp on the 2007 USA Beach Junior Tour. The Tour runs almost every weekend from May 26 to Aug. 12 and includes boys and girls divisions (no co-ed teams) in age groups from 8-20. The focus is on competition, but also on expanding participation on the beach and identifying players for USA Volleyball’s high performance beach pipeline MORE

FORMER LONG BEACH STATE HEAD COACH SANDEFUR DIES
Randy Sandefur. Photo courtesy of Long Beach State Former Coach Randy Sandefur, the first head men’s volleyball coach at Long Beach State, passed away on the evening of Thursday, March 15. Sandefur enjoyed his greatest success at Long Beach State as the men’s volleyball coach from 1969-75. Sandefur led the 49ers to two NCAA runner-up finishes in 1970 and 1973, as well as third-place finishes in 1971 and 1972. His overall record was 35-29 (.547), with one conference title, won in 1973 when the 49ers went 15-3; their best mark under Sandefur. MORE

 

USOC PICKS CHICAGO AS 2016 APPLICANT CITY
The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) announced Chicago as its Applicant City for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The announcement was made April 14 following a vote by the USOC Board of Directors during its quarterly meeting at the Hilton Washington Embassy Row Hotel in Washington, D.C. More

COACH EDUCATION SCHEDULE
  • Register NOW for the June 1-3 IMPACT and CAP Level I & II courses in Parma, Ohio! Early Bird prices good through May 4, 2007!
  • Just announced! Dates for the CAP I and II in Minneapolis during the USA Junior Olympic Girls' Championships: CAP I on June 28-30, and CAP II on July 1-3, with additional Modules opportunities in the morning of July 4th. IMPACT Clinics will be offered from 1-5 pm on June 28, 29, 30, July 2, 3, 4. Registration links will be open soon - check the CAP Course Schedule page for more information.
  • A CAP Level I course will be offered at the Boy's Junior Championships in Atlanta on July 3-5, with IMPACT Clinics scheduled for July 3 and 7 from 1-5 pm. Additional Modules opportunities my also be scheduled for the 6th and morning of the 7th. Registration links will be open soon - check the CAP Course Schedule page for more information.
  • A Modules-Only Clinic will be scheduled in conjunction with the Girl's invitational Tournament in Atlanta, (June 7-10) with exact course dates yet to be determined.
  • A CAP Level I course will be offered July 20-21 in Ft.Lauderdale in conjunction with the USAV Junior High Performance Championships. Registration links will be open soon - check the CAP Course Schedule page for more information.
  • A CAP Level I Core course will be taught in conjunction with a 2-day VCAP Conditioning clinic in Dallas, TX on July 26-28 at the Robert Brown Sports Performance facility. CAP I students may take the Core day followed by the 2-day VCAP Clinic to earn a complete CAP I certification, or may just take the Core day only.     The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that Juniata College sophomore setter Matt Werle was named the 2007 AVCA Division III Men’s National Player of the Year. Werle was a member of the 2006 U.S. Men’s Junior National Team and has been named a member of the 2007 training team. For more information, click here... Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Executive Director Al Beaird has announced the Federation’s Men’s Volleyball 15th Anniversary Teams. The teams honor current and former players from: BYU, Cal State Northridge, Hawaii, Long Beach, Pepperdine, Stanford, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and USC. Members of the “First Team” are George Roumain, Jeff Nygaard, Brandon Taliaferro, Ryan Millar, Brent Hilliard, Sean Rooney and Mike Lambert. Click here for the complete list... The MPSF has announced its 2007 All-MPSF Men’s Volleyball Teams, Player, Newcomer and Coach of the Year honorees as voted by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball head coaches. Jonathan Winder of Pepperdine was named the MPSF Player of the Year. Yamil Perez of BYU won MPSF Newcomer of the Year. The MPSF Coach of the Year is Marv Dunphy of Pepperdine. Player of the Year honors went to Daniel Matthews of Ohio State. Ohio State’s Pete Hansen was named Coach of the Year.
