The U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team defeated hometown favorite Poland, 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19) on July 15 for a third-place finish at the FIVB World League in Katowice, Poland. Rich Lambourne was named Best Libero.

MAY-TREANOR, WALSH GET ANOTHER WIN IN BERLIN |

In front of more than 5,500 fans, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh defeated Juliana Silva and Larissa Franca of Brazil, 2-1 (18-21, 21-15, 15-7) for the Smart Grand Slam title. The Americans have won three gold medals in four stops on the 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour. With 42 SWATCH medals as a team, the pair has now earned a total of $1,242,540 in SWATCH events. MORE

CAP Courses at GJOVC Successful!
A total of 31 coaches attended the CAP Level I at the GJOVC in Minneapolis on June 28-30, with another 19 attending the CAP II on July 1-3! Of the attending coaches, 19 were either coaching teams in the tournament or were club directors attending with their teams. A special “shout-out” from USAV-CAP goes to these coaches for making the extra commitment to coaching education!

Six international greats of volleyball will be honored in Holyoke, Mass., on Thursday, Oct. 11. Bob Ctvrtlik of the United States, Kerri Pottharst of Australia, Andrea Gardini of Italy, Dimitar Zlatanov of Bulgaria, Carlos Nuzman of Brazil and Yuan Weimin of China will be inducted to the Volleyball Hall of Fame in an afternoon ceremony. The 22nd enshrinement event will take place at 2 p.m. at the Hall of Fame at 444 Dwight St. in Heritage State Park. Admission to the ceremony is free of charge, however it is advised to call ahead to reserve seating. Click here for the Hall of Fame web site... A jury on July 9 awarded former Fresno State volleyball coach Lindy Vivas $5.85 million in damages, ruling that the school discriminated against her for speaking up on behalf of female athletes. Click here for more… 1994 Washington University in St. Louis graduate and former volleyball player Amy Sullivan Nordmann will be inducted into the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Hall of Fame® during ceremonies in San Diego on Sunday, July 1. Nordmann closed her phenomenal three-year career at Washington University with three NCAA Division III championships (1991, 1992, 1993). A two-time first-team Division III All-America selection, she was twice named the GTE Academic All-America of the Year for the college division. The network will air the women’s final Saturday, July 21 from 4:30-6 p.m. EDT/1:30-3 PDT and will show the men’s final Sunday, July 22 from 4:30-6 p.m. EDT/1:30-3 PDT.
