U.S. WOMEN CLAIM BRONZE AT PAN AMERICAN GAMES |

The U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team collected bronze medals Thursday afternoon by defeating Peru 25-22, 25-22, 25-22 in the third-place match of the XV Pan American Games held at Maracanãzinho Gymnasium. Team USA advanced to the medal round by defeating Costa Rica 3-0 and Puerto Rico 3-1, before concluding Pool B action with a 3-0 loss to Cuba. The U.S. lost to Brazil 25-13, 25-20, 25-20 on July 18 in the semifinal round. MORE

LOOMIS, STOLFUS FINISH PAN AM GAMES WITH SILVER |

The U.S. Men’s Beach duo of Ty Loomis and Hans Stolfus had a goal of playing on the final day of the Pan American Games for the country’s first-ever medal in the event, and they accomplished it by claiming the silver medal after falling to the top-ranked Brazilian duo of Ricardo Santos and Emanuel Rego. USA Volleyball is requesting and seeking nominations of qualified individuals to serve on its restructured Board of Directors following the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. At its January 2007 meeting, the USA Volleyball Board of Directors took action to restructure itself such that there shall be 16 Directors with 15 votes. For additional information, click here...USA Volleyball has made two additions to its national office staff in Colorado Springs. USA Volleyball has selected Andy Pai as coordinator of the Coaching Accreditation Program, where his role is to supervise and manage all facets of the educational program and its courses. Pai lives in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he has been an active member of the volleyball community. Prior to joining USAV, Andy was the club director, president and coach for Pikes Peak Volleyball Club. Amber Turner (Colorado Springs, Colo.) joins USA Volleyball as an administrative assistant in the High Performance Department. She replaces Kendal Kelly, now the coordinator of executive operations, in overseeing the logistics of High Performance National Indoor Programs. Turner graduated from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 2004 where she studied health sciences...The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that 308 schools have earned the GamePlanTM/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2006-2007 season. For details, click here...The official test event for the Beijing 2008 beach volleyball venue will be a $50,000USD FIVB Challenger event Aug. 13-19.
