The U.S. beach volleyball team of Joey Dykstra (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and Mark Van Zwieten (Pompano Beach, Fla.) bounced back from disappointment to win two pool play matches on Sept. 7, including a victory over the No. 1 seeded team, at the SWATCH-FIVB Junior World Championship in Modena, Italy. MISTY MAY-TREANOR PULLS OUT OF VEGAS AVP EVENT |

Misty May-Treanor has pulled out of the Gods and Goddesses of the Beach tournament, saying she will rest her sore knees to be ready for San Francisco.
The event, which begins Aug. 6 at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, has a unique format that features round-robin play with one men's champion and one women's champion ultimately crowned at the conclusion of the tournament. MORE

USAV ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS |

The Initial Nominating and Governance Committee of USA Volleyball (USAV) is now accepting and nominees applicants for the newly restructured board of directors. The USA Volleyball (USAV) Board of Directors unanimously approved a motion to restructure itself at its winter meeting held Jan. 12-14 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

On Sept. 7, the U.S. Olympic Committee and its Paralympic Division hosted a fencing clinic at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. U.S. sitting volleyball player James Stuck, who was a patient at Walter Reed after being injured in Iraq, assisted with the clinic and was among those offering support and words of thanks to members of the military who have been injured while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. John Speraw, who is an assistant coach with the U.S. Men's National Team and the men's volleyball head coach at UC Irvine, is running for a spot on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Board of Directors.
