ABOUT RSS FEEDS
RSS, often described as "Really Simple Syndication," allows web readers to create
a menu of updated news and information sources without requiring readers to constantly
visit a Web site to see what's new. Web readers can link to headlines on topics of
their choosing on a variety of web sites. USA Volleyball offers an RSS feed that
provides updated news and features. RSS feeds contain headlines and hyperlinks to
longer articles on the USA Volleyball website. USA Volleyball's feed is free of charge.
Place the RSS feed of your choice into your RSS reader and each headline will link
you back to the USA Volleyball website for the entire story.
A software application typically known as an aggregator is required to display
RSS feeds. These programs will collect, update and display RSS feeds from any number
of sources. Quite a few free and paid news aggregators are available for download.
Google lists a number of news aggregators,
none of which are associated or endorsed by USA Volleyball, that you can download
and test.
Once you've obtained a feed reader, subscribing to an RSS feed is as simple as
looking for the appropriate XML code. Most Web sites that publish an RSS feed will display
a tiny orange box or button labeled "RSS" or "XML".
Click the button and your Web browser typically goes to a page of cryptic code. Just copy
the Web "address" or URL of that page and plug it into your feed reader. The software will
then automatically retrieve and display that site's latest information.
